Preparation to Mission

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Next to the libraries and lecture halls where our seminary brothers receive their theological education, a most important place is the seminary chapel. It's there that future Redemptorists stand before God and ask each day "God, what do you expect of me? What do you dream of my life?".

Eucharist in the Basilica

Prayer has a special meaning in the life of each Redemptorist. It is when we hear Christ's subtle voice which calls to us: "Do not be afraid, follow Me.". Often, many hours spent on your knees in front of Christ, in meditation of the Gospel, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and celebration of the Eucharist are needed to hear and recognize this voice and to answer it with joy.

Prayer lets us draw strength of perseverance in priestly vocation, and helps us fulfill our vows of: chastity, poverty and obedience. St. Alphonsus Liguori, the founding father or the Redemptorists wrote in one of his books: "He who prays redeems himself". Continuing the mission of this admirable saint, through prayer we wish to strive for holiness to which God invites us.

Novice Praying

"Let the members ever take to themselves the exhortation of Christ the Redeemer: "they ought always to pray and not to lose heart" (Luke 18:1). Let them imitate the disciples of the first community in the Church: "they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowships, to the breaking of bread and the prayers," (Acts 2:42) "all these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with Mary the mother of Jesus" (Acts 1:14). Indeed, they will make every effort to have Saint Alphonsus's spirit of prayer in their own lives."

Let’s sing to the Lord

Fulfilling our Redemptorist mission begins with prayer. To be an effective tool in the hands of God, in prophesying the Good News of His great love, one must experience it himself at the very beginning, in his meeting with Christ. All who in their hearts found that God loves them, cannot keep it to themselves, and desire to share this news with all people they meet in their lives' path as well as those they are sent to.

Each missionary Redemptorist, spreading the Gospel in different corners of the world, does it after meeting with the One, who said of himself: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life".
